Chrome Extension Downtime Alerts for Websites and APIs

Why Chrome for Downtime Alerts?

  • Right where you work: alerts appear on the desktop you already have open
  • Down, recovery, and SSL alerts: for HTTP, API, and MCP monitors
  • Toolbar badge: a red count of monitors that are down right now
  • Live status popup: every monitor and its current state, one click away
  • No verification step: signing in connects the extension automatically
  • Every plan: included on Free, Indie, Saas, and Founding Builders

How Chrome Extension Alerts Work

1

Install the Extension

Add the AlertsDown extension to Chrome and pin it to your toolbar so the status badge is always visible.

2

Sign in with your AlertsDown email and password. The extension connects itself as your "Chrome extension" contact, with no code to enter.

3

Choose It on Your Monitors

Select "Chrome extension" as a contact on the monitors that should alert you, just like email, SMS, or Signal. Alerts start with the next incident.

What You Get in Chrome

When a monitor with the Chrome extension selected goes down, every Chrome browser signed in to the extension shows a desktop notification with the monitor name and URL. When the monitor recovers, the recovery notice replaces the down notice, so your screen reflects the current state instead of a pile of old alerts. SSL certificate problems raise their own notification.

Click a notification to open that monitor in your AlertsDown dashboard. The toolbar icon shows a red badge with the number of monitors that are down, and the popup lists every monitor with its status, plus shortcuts to open the dashboard or add a monitor.

Chrome Extension vs Other Alert Channels

How the Chrome extension fits alongside other AlertsDown channels.
Channel Where alerts arrive Best for Availability
Chrome extension Desktop notification in every signed-in Chrome browser Seeing outages while you work at your computer Every plan, including Free Builders
Email Your inbox Detailed records and low-urgency updates Every plan
Signal Your phone, end-to-end encrypted Private alerts when you are away from your desk Every paid plan
SMS Any phone, no data connection needed A fallback that works without mobile data Every paid plan

Browser notifications only reach you while Chrome is running. Pair the extension with email, Signal, or SMS so a critical outage still reaches you when your laptop is closed.

Included on Every Plan

Free Builders

Chrome extension alerts are part of the free plan, alongside email. No credit card required to sign up and start receiving desktop notifications.

Paid Plans

Indie, Saas, and Founding Builders include the extension too, together with Signal, SMS, Telegram, webhooks, and more.

Monthly Allowance

Chrome extension alerts count toward your plan's monthly notification allowance, like any other channel. One alert covers every Chrome browser signed in to your account.

Private by Design

The extension stores only your session token, your account email, and your latest monitor statuses in Chrome's local storage on that device. Nothing is synced to other browsers. Your password is sent once to sign in and is never stored.

It does not read your browsing history or the content of the pages you visit, it has no analytics and no remote code, and it talks only to api.alertsdown.com. Signing out removes the stored token and monitor data. Read the details in the Chrome extension section of our privacy policy.

Only a session token, your account email, and your latest monitor statuses, kept in Chrome's local storage on that device. The extension does not read your browsing history or page content, and it talks only to api.alertsdown.com.
